About:
Lisa Tanzer is pleased to share her love for all forms of fitness with TFC members and clients. With over 20 years of experience teaching fitness and healthy lifestyles, she has a widely diverse repertoire of activities and programs to draw upon. Lisa’s formal education includes a Master’s degree in Anatomy, Neurobiology and Cell Biology from Loyola University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from Concordia University. A Personal Trainer for over 15 years (A.C.E.), she is also holds a Certified Medical Exercise Specialist certificate (CMES), that assures standards in working with those with special health challenges (diabetes, hypertension, asthma, etc.), and who may be transitioning out of clinical rehab settings.
Other areas of expertise include: Pilates Mat, Spinning, Rehabilitative Exercise and more. Lisa explores the most satisfying active lifestyle plans possible for her client’s circumstances and physical limitations. With a strong emphasis on core strength and balance, she believes in “functional fitness”, making people better able to meet the demands of daily life- not just of sports. Lisa also loves to stimulate the energy that Group Fitness classes should be all about. While safety is always foremost, her classes are fun! A variety of music, props, dancing and games keep them interesting and challenging. Try out her Functional Training classes for an overall strength and balance workout. Spinning is also a favorite- it builds heart and lung health without the high impact of other cardio-based formats. Lisa is currently available as a Class Instructor, Personal Trainer and Fitness Consultant. Visit one of her classes today or contact her for a free Personal Training consultation. Some openings currently available, including afternoons and weekends.
Special Focus #1
As an avid hiker, Lisa is ready to share her tips and training progressions with those training for specific hikes, or those new to hiking and in need of a good foundation to meet the demands of the trail. All hiking training includes emphasis on ankle strength, core strength, balance and upper body range-of-motion. In addition, environmental specificity is discussed. For instance, those preparing for hiking at higher altitudes will be coached in special considerations for those environments.
Special Focus #2
We live in a wonderful age of science and possibility. Because of scientific intervention, we have been able to extend our lifespans but also our functional abilities beyond that of our grandparents. However, much of this is with the help of the following: physical therapy, joint replacement or repair, and pharmaceuticals. In these areas, Lisa has extensive experience and brings this experience to her clients. Those on multiple prescription and non-prescription drugs will benefit from her pre-training consultation, which includes a cross-check of all medications and supplements, and an explanation of any areas of confusion regarding these interventions. Seniors and rehabbers are a pleasure for her to work with. See how Lisa can get you back in the game- safely!
