A Pain in the BACK

 

A new study in the British Journal of Medicine just came out this spring that confirmed once again that people who sit more do NOT experience more low back pain.

Go ahead and read that again.

That’s right.  Sitting does not result in low back (as much as I wish I could tell you it did).  Now if you already have back pain, sitting can make you a lot more uncomfortable because of the extra pressure that position puts on the discs, but the sitting will not cause you to have back pain in the first place.

Sitting is still not great for you.  Your metabolism starts to fall after 45 minutes of sitting.  It’s not great for blood sugar control.  Lots of sitting is associated with lower mood and anxiety.  But it won’t screw up your back.  Unfortunately.
